Why does Sahra Wagenknecht see me as a potential donor for her new party?

I’m old enough to still be on Facebook. And for the second time this week, the algorithm showed me an ad for the new Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), a left-authoritarian / left-conservative / left-anti-immigrant (delete as appropriate) outfit.

BSW did not urge me not to vote for them. Rather, they want me to sponsor one of their campaign posters, which I found odd. I clicked ‘not interested’, but obviously, FB was not impressed. So when the same ad reappeared, I clicked instead on the link that promised an explanation.

So it is my (very occasional) interest in finding accommodation that made me a target for Sahra (there was no other activity to report)? That seems a bit far-fetched even by FB/BSW standards.

So is it the demographic I’m in? Facebook tells me (that’s behind the upper link) that this ad is shown to people who understand German (ok) and who are in Germany (yes, FB is tracking our devices). Not overly specific, right?

Which do you reckon is more likely: BSW squandering their surprisingly ample donor funds on untargeted ads, or Facebook being somewhat economical with the truth?
